BIOGRAPHIA
- English
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Born in Campinas, on february 18th 1968, the artist
Nelson Braga Junior joined the art world rather late,
although he displayed a remarkable affinity with drawing
at an early age. His path led down to music, which is,
nowadays, considered as a secondary professional activity.
In 1999 he earns a book about an exhibition devoted
to Caravaggio and painters under his influence, staged
at MASP (Museum of Art of São Paulo). Fascinated
by the boldness, dramatic effect and technique of this
painter, who has influenced the whole Baroque period,
he acknowledges that he would dedicate his life to painting.
He
meets Álvaro de Bautista, professor at the Arts
College of Unicamp ( University of Campinas), who has
profound knowledge of old painting techniques. At his
invitation, he attends to his nude drawing and painting
classes during three semesters at Unicamp.
In
2001, on Álvaro's advice, He travels to Europe
in order to research into the work of the great masters
in the main museums, in Madrid he
establishes fruitful contact with Manuel Narvaz Patinho,
professor of the Fine Arts College and a great friend
of Álvaro.
In
essence, Nelson uses at his works the resource of veiling,
technique which was pretty much applied by the great
painters of antiquity such as DaVinci, Tiziano, Rubens,
Rembrandt, among others.
At
the core of his painting is the portrait of the human
figure, embedded in technical mastery. Although his
technical references are in the past, he does not intend
to relate his painting to any particular time in history
but let it be the fruit of a pleasant relationship with
art, free to become timeless.
